What it feels like

Order at the counter. Then sit under a whole city.

The iron goes on and the shop starts to smell of warm batter. You carry a plate to a table, look up, and the wall in front of you is Kuala Lumpur in watercolour — the shophouses, the lanterns, the streets you just walked through to get here.

Some people come for the egg waffles and stay for the paintings. Some come for the paintings and leave with a bag of them. Nobody hurries you either way.

  • Two things at onceA café and a small gallery, in one room, for the price of breakfast.
  • Free to look atThe showcase hangs on the walls. You are not asked to buy anything to see it.
  • Open 7.30am to 6pmEvery day of the week — Google, Bing and the review sites all agree.

Plan it in one tap

How long have you got in Chinatown?

Most people arrive at Petaling Street with a gap to fill and no plan. Pick your gap — we will lay one out, and yes, it ends at our door.

I have 45 minutes in Chinatown.

Walking times are our own estimate from the shop door. The exhibition is free and runs until 30 September 2026.

“The café's location in the quieter part of Jalan Petaling is fantastic. Arcades line both sides of the street, and a stroll here reveals true gems. Bubble Bee Café is one of them. With its wonderful café interior, a blend of fifties, Malayan, modern and minimalist styles, a friendly, young team sweetens your visit with cakes, pastries and breakfast delicacies.”
